news . . .
October 1, 2002 - So, if youre looking for info on the Super Secret Kickball Society, youve come to the right place. We apologize for the lack of updates, but we hope that the information you find here will be enough to persuade you to come out and play! The next time SSKS will meet will be this Saturday, October 5 at 3 PM in the indoor soccer room at PING. Just go into PING, turn right, walk to the far basketball court and look for signs. We hope to have a great turnout so that we can have a good start to this years season! See you Saturday!
February 16, 2002 - Despite the loss of two kickballs, SSKS carried on. The red ball was lost during the game on February 9th and the blue ball was lost during practice before the February 16th game. Both balls are lost somewhere in the rafters. No names will be named to protect the innocent. An indoor soccer ball was obtained and used with mixed results.
A great turnout this week, with 14 people showing up. The membership cards were finally finished and handed out, with much rejoicing. Only one game was played this week, probably one of the longest games in SSKS history. This due to the added weight and slippery surface of the indoor soccer ball. The ball could not be kicked very far due to its weight, although some players managed to make it work for them.
Homeruns this week by Ryan. And thats it.
A new "backboard" record was set by Michael, who managed to kick the ball high enough to hit the backboard of the basketball hoop.
It should also be noted that during the February 9th game, Aaron set a new "most homeruns in a game" record by kicking 6!
Thanks to everyone who came this week. Please check the photos section for new photos, and the roster section for scores, teams, and complete attendence. Thanks to everyone who made this weeks game so fun!
Next weeks games fate is under consideration, due to the fact that the PING facilities will not be available for play due to Sibs Weekend activities. Currently, the game will be played outdoors at a yet undecided location and if weather cooperates. If you have any suggestions as where to play, please email saturn@perfectnow.net. Thank you!
February 02, 2002 - Another great game
of kickball this week. Early on, we encountered a problem. Our normal playing court had been overtaken by basketball players! We hurried to the other side of PING to get the other indoor soccer court before anyone else could. However, this one had people playing badminton. They were kind enough to allow us to use the court at 3 PM, so the game went on as planned!
We had 14 people again this week, although suprisingly several regular attendees did not come. We had six new players and two new members (Alissa and Chris.) Check out the roster page for complete details.
Highlights:
Graham and Michael both had 3 homeruns each for their team "One Tall Cap."
A second game was played.
See everyone next week! A note to the members: your membership cards are ready and the only way to get them is to come to next weeks game! Thanks to everyone who played this week!
January 26,
2002 - The best turnout ever
this week, which made for a great game! 14 people in all showed up. Check the
new roster list for this weeks team! Also, it was a lot of peoples second and
third game. That means membership cards are in order. For you newbies, membership
cards are given after you attend two games. Check the roster list for those
with membership cards! On to the game: No volleyball tournaments,
although some badminton players thought they were going to take our court. They
failed, although I did invite them to play kickball. "We'll think about
it" they said. We never saw them again. With 14 people this week we were
able to have a full lineup on defense! The game was also very fast paced due
to the amount of people playing. Some of the highlights: Homeruns by Liz,
Jen, Michael, Ryan and Aaron. Ryan also hit the backboard of the basketball
hoop for 5 runs! Also, the biggest loss deficit of 20 to 3, Decepticons vs.
the Spartans. Although scores dont matter, the game is just for fun. Check out
the records section for more info! The first kickball injury, sadly, happened
this week as well. On her first kick, Claire pulled her left quadricep. Being
the trooper she is, she acted as official and scorekeeper. Thanks Claire! Feel
better soon! Thanks to everyone
who showed up, despite hangovers, homework, and projects! New photos are up
as well, so be sure to check those out! Hope to see you all next week! January 22,
2002 - This
site has gone
through a LOT of revamping, as if you couldnt tell. I hope that the new site
is easier to use, and full of more useful information. Some just added sections
include the three Rs - Rules, Records, and Roster. Be sure to check them out.
I guess the big news of today is the membership card templates came in from
SSKS RITs co-founder, Nate. Thanks to him! Check out the rules section for information
on how to get one. Also, one last thing. Im sure a lot of you are filling out
scholarship applications. Be sure to put SSKS as one of your student activities!
Every little bit helps! Bye for now. ~Michael January 19,
2002 - The second game of
kickball went great, although the turnout was about half of what was expected.
This could be attributed to the fact that it was "Dad's Weekend", an OU sponsored
event to make sure that kids stay in touch with their respective families. Also,
John and Lindsey and Kristin and Courtney all went home! Ah, well, family calls.
On to this weeks game: There was a volleyball
tournament this weekend and it was being held right next to where we were playing
kickball. So every chance we got we made sure to kick the ball over the wall
and disrupt the game. They responded by hitting their volleyball onto our court.
It was a game within a game! We were able to play two games, both to twenty.
Here are some of the highlights: Homeruns were kicked
by Aaron and Claire. Grand Slams were kicked by Chris, Jen, Michael, and Ryan.
And the big highlight was Chris is the first person who hit the backboard, thus
scoring 5 runs and winning the game! Attendees this week: Aaron, Chris, Claire,
Graham, Jen, Michael, Ryan, and Zach. Thanks to everyone
who played this week and all those who were here in spirit ;) New photos in
the photos section! January 12,
2002 - Today was the first
game for the Super-Secret Kickball Society at OU. And what a game it was. Ryan
and I were able to sucessfully secure a court. They cleared it off and set about
making up rules, baselines, etc. We had a good turnout for the first game.
It was a great game! Some of the highlights:
-Courtney caught the ball! Woo! -Zach hit the only homerun of the day! -Ryan
managed to foul out twice times in a row. He made up for it later by bringing
in two runners to tie the game! Halfway through
the game, we noticed that we had an audience. Some of the patrons of the gym
were up on the second floor looking down onto the court! Toward the end of the
game, some guys showed up and tried to kick us off the court. I told them we
were in the middle of an important kickball game. I then invited them to play
but they turned us down. Must have been too cool for kickball. Too bad the cool
kids were the ones playing kickball ;) Thanks to everyone who showed up! We
need more people still! Tell your friends and come on down. See you next week!
